Living tradition, not a museum.
So much of our heritage reaches children as a thick book they are told to revere but rarely open. We wanted the opposite: small, joyful, daily ways in — a 60-second katha, a guess-the-deity puzzle, a coloring page, a temple to plan a visit to, a wisdom card to keep. Learn a little, play a little, and carry it forward.
Source-aware and respectful.
- Traced to the source. Stories are tied to their roots — the Valmiki Ramayana, the Puranas, and recognised traditional retellings — with notes when an episode comes from later tradition or varies between regions.
- For the whole family. Every story has a clear, kind, kid-friendly version, with meaning a parent can talk through — never frightening, never preachy.
- Respectful and inclusive. We honour the devotion these stories carry, present them with care, and welcome every family that wants to share them.
- Honest about variants. The epics live in many tellings. Where traditions differ, we say so rather than flatten them.
Read, play, draw, visit, pass on.
A daily katha and puzzle, a growing library of stories and deity hubs, quizzes and kids games, temple guides with practical tips from families, printable drawing pages, and heirloom festival kits. Free to start — and no child account is ever needed.
A small, independent team.
Khatakshetra is built by a small independent team who grew up on these stories and wanted to hand them on in a way our own kids would actually love. We're just getting started, we read every message, and we'd love your help shaping what comes next.
Begin with today's katha.
A 60-second story and a puzzle — the easiest way to see what we're about.
